NYCxDesign Month

New York City’s annual design festival, NYCxDesign is back for the 11th year. The NYTimes recognizes this citywide festival as a week-long celebration of homey objects - including furniture, fabric, lighting and tabletop accessories. It is one of the biggest celebrations in the world, getting designers and design enthusiasts excited for the new exhibitions, product launches and shopping experiences all throughout the city.

Last month was a whirlwind of design inspiration for Sara Mosele and the team as they were in attendance for many of the events New York Design Month had to offer. The itinerary was packed with exciting events, including visits to the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF), the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, and the Soho District's Design Open Showroom Nights.

The ICFF was a feast for the eyes, with over 900 exhibitors showcasing their latest designs. From sleek furniture to avant-garde lighting, there was something for everyone. “I was particularly impressed by the innovative use of sustainable materials in many of the pieces on display.” - said Sara Mosele, Founder and CEO of SM Interiors.

The Kips Bay Decorator Show House was another highlight of the trip. Each year, a luxury house somewhere in the city is remodeled floor by floor, each by a different designer. This year's show house was located in the luxurious and historic Beaux-Art Mansion, on the Upper West Side, overlooking Riverside Park. It featured the work of 22 top interior designers. Each room was a unique masterpiece, showcasing the latest trends in interior design. Playing with colors, textures and other-worldly themes, many of these designs were far out.

But the real excitement came during the Soho District's Design Open Showroom Nights. This event allowed visitors to explore the studios and showrooms of some of the most talented designers in the city. From contemporary furniture to high-end lighting fixtures, the creativity on display was truly inspiring.

“One of my favorite showrooms was the Invisible Collection, which inaugurated the newly renovated space on East 64th street. I also loved exploring the various galleries in the area, which showcased cutting-edge works of art and design.” Sara remarked.

Overall, New York Design Month was an unforgettable experience. Coming away with renewed appreciation for the creativity and innovation that drives the design industry, we suggest that if you're a design enthusiast, check out NYCxDesign's events next year – you won't be disappointed!
